We collect Click and Collect orders on your behalf, bring them to your door and carry every box to the room it belongs in. If you want the furniture built as well, we do that on the same visit.
Click and Collect at Ferry Road
IKEA's Click and Collect is free at all its UK stores. At IKEA Cardiff, Ferry Road, Grangetown, CF11 0XR, collection runs on the same hours as the store: 10am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm on Saturday and 10.30am to 4.30pm on Sunday. You collect on the day you chose, once the email or text says the order is ready, and the confirmation tells you how and where to pick it up. The hours are on IKEA's Cardiff store page.
At the store you follow the signs for Click and Collect and scan the QR code from your email. The order is brought to the counter on a trolley, and from there it has to go into a vehicle.
Someone Else Can Collect It
You do not have to be there. IKEA's guidance says that if you arrange for someone else to collect, they need the original order confirmation or invoice and their own photo ID. Forward us the confirmation and we collect it in your slot. The rule is set out in IKEA's collection guidance.
The same guidance says help with loading is not automatically provided for heavy items. That is the part a car and a friend struggle with, and the reason we send two people for a wardrobe or a kitchen order.
- Forward the order confirmation or invoice to us before the slot.
- Our driver brings photo ID to the collection counter.
- Tell us the floor and whether there is a lift at your end.
Delivery, Van Hire or a Man and Van
IKEA offers its own delivery from the store at £29. Its same-day and selected-time delivery through Taskrabbit, at £39 and £49, is only offered at its Birmingham, Croydon, Greenwich, Lakeside, Warrington and Wembley stores, not Cardiff.
The other route is a hired van. IKEA works with Hertz 24/7 for hourly van hire at its stores, at £15 an hour or £25 for two hours, booked through an app that needs a smartphone. That gets the boxes home, but it still needs someone to drive and two people to carry a wardrobe up a terraced stair.
A single item from the store usually costs from £45 to £85, and a bigger order of a few pieces from £85 to £150. The same pricing covers single item collections from any Cardiff store.
Long Boxes and Heavy Ones
IKEA publishes the package size of each product, and the big ones are long. A white PAX wardrobe frame 236cm tall comes in a package 246cm long weighing up to 55.94kg; the 201cm frame comes in a 210cm package of up to 49.45kg. A BILLY bookcase arrives in a 206cm box weighing 36.85kg.
None of those fits in a car, and a 246cm box only just fits the floor of a short wheelbase Transit, as the van size guide shows. We bring the van to suit the order, and the long boxes go in flat and come out flat at the other end.
Built Where It Goes
IKEA's own assembly service starts at £33 and is added at checkout. If you would rather have the boxes carried in and built on the same visit, our furniture assembly service puts each piece together in the room it is going to stay in, and anchors tall pieces to the wall where the wall allows.
Keep the receipt either way. IKEA's 365 day return policy lets you return products for a refund card, subject to its terms.
