Studio or bedsit in Cardiff
£130 to £220
Most jobs of this size settle around £170. A single room of furniture and boxes, one van, one trip.
The load is small, the stairs are the job
Very few studio moves are held up by how much there is. They are held up by a narrow Victorian staircase, a fob-only entrance that has to be propped, or a lift that takes one mattress at a time. We plan for that rather than discovering it, so when the van arrives the route out of the building is already worked out.
If you are on the ground floor with a bay outside, a studio move sits at the bottom of the range and often takes under two hours end to end.
Deposits, overlaps and same day moves
Studio tenancies rarely overlap neatly, and plenty of these moves happen on the same day the old place has to be empty and clean. We can work to a fixed slot so you are out in time for the inventory check, and take anything the landlord will not want left behind in the same run rather than making you book a second job for it.
If there is a gap between tenancies, we can take the load to a storage unit and bring it out again when the new place is ready. Say so when you ask so it is priced as one move rather than two.
What tips a studio into the next band up
Three things, usually. A large amount of loose kitchen and bathroom contents that have not been boxed, a second address to collect from, or furniture that has to be dismantled to leave the room. Any of them adds time, and time is the price.
Boxing up properly before the day is the cheapest thing you can do. A studio packed into cartons loads in one clean run, while the same contents in carrier bags and open drawers can add an hour to the job.
How it sits against other move sizes
The full table, so you can see where your job sits if it is bigger or smaller than this one.
| Job | What it covers | Indicative price |
|---|---|---|
| Single item | One sofa, bed, fridge or wardrobe collected and delivered across the city. | £45 to £85 |
| A few items | Half a room of furniture, a marketplace haul or the bit that would not fit in the car. | £85 to £150 |
| Studio or bedsit | A single room of furniture and boxes, one van, one trip. | £130 to £220 |
| One bedroom flat | Bed, sofa, wardrobe, white goods and the boxes that come with them. | £180 to £300 |
| Two bedroom flat or house | Two bedrooms of furniture plus a living room and kitchen, usually a full van. | £260 to £430 |
| Three bedroom house | A family house, often a large van or two runs depending on the loft and garage. | £390 to £650 |
| Four bedroom house | A big load with a second crew member, and nearly always more than one trip. | £550 to £900 |
What the price includes
- The van, the fuel and the driver
- A driver who carries, loads and stacks rather than watching you do it
- Blankets, straps and trolley to protect what is being moved
- Loading and unloading at both ends, including stairs
- The parking sorted before the day rather than argued about on it
What moves the number
- Floor and lift access. A third floor walk up in Cathays takes longer than a ground floor flat in Rhiwbina, and time is what the price is made of.
- Where the van can stop. A bay outside is one price, a hundred metre carry from the nearest legal loading point in the city centre is another.
- How much there actually is. Lofts, garages and sheds are where quotes go wrong, so count them in when you tell us.
- Whether it needs two people. Wardrobes, sofa beds, American fridge freezers and pianos usually do.
- Dismantling and reassembly, if flat pack furniture has to come apart to get out of the room.
These are indicative ranges for planning, not quotes. The figure we give you is fixed before we start and does not change on the day. See all man and van prices in Cardiff.
