Wardrobe and flat pack furniture moving in Cardiff

A wardrobe is the piece most likely to have been built in the room it is standing in, which means it is also the piece most likely to have to come apart to leave it. That is fine, it just needs to be planned rather than discovered at four in the afternoon.

We move built wardrobes whole where the route allows, dismantle them where it does not, and rebuild at the other end. The same applies to flat pack beds, chests and units that have to be moved rather than replaced.

Wardrobe or flat pack in Cardiff

£55 to £110

Most jobs of this kind settle around £75. Dismantled if it has to be, moved, and rebuilt at the other end.

Flat pack that has already been built once

Chipboard furniture is not designed to be taken apart and put back together, and some of it does not survive the trip. Cam locks strip, dowels split, and a wardrobe that was solid before can end up wobbly after. We will tell you honestly which of your pieces are likely to be fine and which are borderline.

Where a piece is genuinely at the end of its life, moving it can cost more than replacing it. We would rather say so than charge you to transport something that will go in the bin a month later.

Solid wood, and the doors

An older solid wardrobe often comes apart properly, because it was built to. The back panel comes off, the sides separate and the doors lift off their hinges, and it goes back together as well as it came apart.

Doors and mirrors travel separately, wrapped. A mirrored wardrobe door is the most fragile thing in most bedrooms and it is not worth the risk of leaving it attached.

What to do with the contents

Empty it. A wardrobe with clothes still in it is heavier, unbalanced and more likely to be dropped, and the hanging rail will bend. Boxes or bags for the contents make the job faster and cheaper.

If you would rather not do that yourself, packing can be added to the job. Say so when you ask rather than on the morning.

What the price includes

  • The van, the fuel and the driver
  • A driver who carries, loads and stacks rather than watching you do it
  • Blankets, straps and trolley to protect what is being moved
  • Loading and unloading at both ends, including stairs
  • The parking sorted before the day rather than argued about on it

What moves the number

  • Floor and lift access. A third floor walk up in Cathays takes longer than a ground floor flat in Rhiwbina, and time is what the price is made of.
  • Where the van can stop. A bay outside is one price, a hundred metre carry from the nearest legal loading point in the city centre is another.
  • How much there actually is. Lofts, garages and sheds are where quotes go wrong, so count them in when you tell us.
  • Whether it needs two people. Wardrobes, sofa beds, American fridge freezers and pianos usually do.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to move a wardrobe in Cardiff?+

A single wardrobe falls within the range on this page. Dismantling and rebuilding sits at the upper end because of the time it takes.

Will you take it apart and put it back together?+

Yes, where it has to come apart to leave the room. Tell us when you book so the time and the tools are allowed for.

Will flat pack survive being moved?+

Usually, but not always. Chipboard and cam locks were not designed for it. We will tell you which pieces look risky before we start.

Do I need to empty it first?+

Yes. A full wardrobe is heavier and less balanced, and the rail bends. Emptying it makes the job quicker and cheaper.

Can you take away the one it is replacing?+

Yes, on the same visit, which costs less than booking a separate collection.
