We work across CF5, from the streets off Fairwater Road and St Fagans Road out towards Pentrebane and the western edge. Runs into Llandaff, Canton or the centre are short, so most of what you pay for here is the carry rather than the drive.
Outside the parking plan
Cardiff's Cabinet approved the City Parking Plan on 16 October 2025 and it will be delivered over ten years, in phases of up to three years, three to six and six to ten. Fairwater is not named in it. The areas the council has put first are the inner terraces where the pressure is worst: Cathays, Plasnewydd, Riverside, Adamsdown and Grangetown.
Each zone also needs its own traffic regulation order, and the council says each one of those can take up to 18 months. So a move in Fairwater today is a move with no permit to arrange and no bay to suspend, and nothing on the published timetable changes that soon. Gabalfa, on the other side of Llandaff, was named in the Outer area at consultation, which is the difference between the two.
- No residents' scheme here, so the ordinary loading rules apply.
- The first zones are inner-city terraces, none of them in CF5.
- One traffic order per zone, up to 18 months each, over a ten year programme.
Three schools on one campus this term
The Fairwater Community Campus is a £110m project and the largest Cardiff has delivered under the Sustainable Communities for Learning programme. Ground was broken in February 2024. Its contractor, ISG, went into administration that September, Borley Engineering Services took over as interim principal contractor in November 2024, and the work carried on.
The health and wellbeing block, Copa, was handed over on 5 September 2025 and opens to community groups in the evenings. Cantonian High School opened in January 2026 after its 1960s buildings were demolished. The last phase is the one that matters this month: new buildings for Woodlands High School and Riverbank School are scheduled for occupation in September 2026, and both schools are relocating into Fairwater from their old site by Trelai Park.
Two schools arriving at once puts traffic on roads that did not carry it a year ago, at the two times of day a van most wants the kerb. If you are moving near the campus, an early start or a mid-morning one beats half eight. The council has tracked each stage on its campus announcements.
A station with nowhere to park
Fairwater station opened in 1987 and Transport for Wales is blunt about what it has: there are no car parking facilities here, and no bike storage either, zero spaces. Step-free access is by a long, moderately shallow ramp from Pwllmelin Road to platform 1 and another from Fairwater Road to platform 2.
That matters on moving day for one practical reason. In Radyr the station car park is where the second car goes while the van is loaded; here there is no such thing. The area is served by three stations, the others being Danescourt and Waun-Gron Park, so plan the extra car around the street rather than the platform. TfW lists the current facilities on its Fairwater station page.
New streets on the western edge
Plasdwr spans the Fairwater ward, but no named neighbourhood of it sits inside Fairwater itself. The nearest is Gwel y Garth, the Pendown neighbourhood, where Taylor Wimpey is building 337 homes on more than 20 acres south of Pentrebane Road, 30 per cent of them affordable, with a link through to the Ely Trail.
A move into a plot there is a different job from a move into an established Fairwater street: usually a drive rather than a kerb, but often an unfinished road and a handover time shared with other trades. Give us the plot number and the street name and we will check the route first.
What a Fairwater move costs
A room's worth of boxes and a few bits lands between £85 to £150, and a three bedroom house between £390 to £650. Open ended jobs can go on the hourly rate instead, £45 for one person and a van or £65 for two, with a 2 hour minimum.
With no permit to buy and no bay to suspend, a Fairwater job carries none of the parking cost a move in the inner terraces does. Every band we quote from is published rather than given over the phone.
