What a one bedroom flat move costs in Cardiff

A one bedroom flat is the most common move we do in Cardiff. A bed, a sofa, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, the kitchen, and somewhere between fifteen and thirty boxes. It is a full van rather than a part load, and it is comfortably inside a day.

For comparison, a full removals firm in Cardiff averages around £557 for a one to two bedroom move. Man and van work covers the same job for meaningfully less, because you are paying for a van, a driver and the lifting rather than a survey, a crew of four and a packing service you did not ask for.

One bedroom flat in Cardiff

£180 to £300

Most jobs of this size settle around £230. Bed, sofa, wardrobe, white goods and the boxes that come with them.

How the price is built

We work from three things: what is moving, the access at both ends, and how far it is going. A one bed flat from Canton to Grangetown with parking outside both doors sits near the bottom of the range. The same contents from a second floor conversion in Roath to a third floor flat in the Bay with a booked lift sits near the top, and the difference is entirely stairs and carrying distance.

Once those three are known the number is fixed. There is no hourly meter running while the wardrobe is negotiated round a landing, and nothing appears on the invoice that was not in the quote.

White goods, beds and the things that need two

Most one bed moves include at least one item that genuinely takes two people: a sofa bed, a double mattress up a tight stairwell, a washing machine, or a wardrobe that will not come apart. We would rather send the second person and price it in than send one and have your doorframe pay for it.

If your fridge freezer is going, let it defrost the night before and disconnect the washing machine and secure the drum if you can. Both are small jobs that save time on the day.

Timing it around Cardiff

Where you are moving shapes the slot as much as the price. Central addresses have bus gates and pedestrian zones to work around, and a Principality Stadium fixture can close roads near Westgate Street and the Bay at short notice. We check the fixture list when we book rather than on the morning.

Month ends and Friday afternoons are the busiest slots in the city. A midweek move is easier to place at short notice and is often the difference between this week and next.

What the price includes

  • The van, the fuel and the driver
  • A driver who carries, loads and stacks rather than watching you do it
  • Blankets, straps and trolley to protect what is being moved
  • Loading and unloading at both ends, including stairs
  • The parking sorted before the day rather than argued about on it

What moves the number

  • Floor and lift access. A third floor walk up in Cathays takes longer than a ground floor flat in Rhiwbina, and time is what the price is made of.
  • Where the van can stop. A bay outside is one price, a hundred metre carry from the nearest legal loading point in the city centre is another.
  • How much there actually is. Lofts, garages and sheds are where quotes go wrong, so count them in when you tell us.
  • Whether it needs two people. Wardrobes, sofa beds, American fridge freezers and pianos usually do.
  • Dismantling and reassembly, if flat pack furniture has to come apart to get out of the room.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to move a one bedroom flat in Cardiff?+

Most one bed flat moves inside Cardiff fall in the range on this page, and the majority land near the middle of it. The figure depends on floor access at both ends, where the van can park and how much has been boxed before the day.

How long will it take?+

Three to five hours for a typical local move, including loading, the drive and unloading. Stairs at both ends is what stretches it.

Is it cheaper than a removals company?+

For a flat this size, yes, usually by a clear margin. A full removals firm prices in a survey and a larger crew that a one bed move does not need.

Do I need to pack everything myself?+

You do not have to. Packing can be added if you would rather not do it, but a flat that is already boxed is quicker to load and sits lower in the range.

Can you do it at the weekend?+

Yes, weekends run the same as weekdays. They book out first, so ask early if the date is fixed.
