Mattress or bed in Cardiff
£45 to £90
Most jobs of this kind settle around £60. Moved between addresses, or collected and disposed of properly.
Where a mattress actually goes
Mattresses cannot be tipped in with general waste. They are stripped down so the foam, the springs and the fabric go their separate ways, which is why disposal is charged rather than free, and it is why anyone offering to take one off your hands for a tenner is worth a second thought.
This matters to you and not just to us. Household waste that gets fly tipped and traced back lands the householder with the fine, not whoever loaded it into the van. Ask for the transfer note on any collection, from us or from anyone else.
The council route, honestly
Cardiff Council runs a bulky waste collection and there are recycling centres at Lamby Way and Bessemer Close. If you have a car, no rush and a way to get it out of the house yourself, that is genuinely the cheaper option and we will say so.
Where we earn the difference is the carrying. Getting a double mattress down two flights of a Cathays terrace on your own is how people hurt their backs, and a same-week slot is worth something when the new bed is arriving on Saturday.
Moving a bed rather than binning it
Plenty of these jobs are a move rather than a disposal: a bed going to a new flat, a spare going to a relative, a student mattress heading home for the summer. We wrap it so it arrives clean, because a mattress that has been slid along a pavement is not one you want to sleep on.
Frames usually have to come apart, and most of them go back together in ten minutes. Tell us if the frame is one of the older bolted ones and we will bring the right tools.
What the price includes
- The van, the fuel and the driver
- A driver who carries, loads and stacks rather than watching you do it
- Blankets, straps and trolley to protect what is being moved
- Loading and unloading at both ends, including stairs
- The parking sorted before the day rather than argued about on it
What moves the number
- Floor and lift access. A third floor walk up in Cathays takes longer than a ground floor flat in Rhiwbina, and time is what the price is made of.
- Where the van can stop. A bay outside is one price, a hundred metre carry from the nearest legal loading point in the city centre is another.
- How much there actually is. Lofts, garages and sheds are where quotes go wrong, so count them in when you tell us.
- Whether it needs two people. Wardrobes, sofa beds, American fridge freezers and pianos usually do.
