Cardiff to Swansea
£200 to £1,020
40 miles, about an hour each way. The figure depends entirely on the size of the load, and the table below breaks it down.
What it costs by size of load
Local prices for each size of move, plus the mileage for this route. The same figures apply in the other direction, because the van makes both legs either way.
| Job | What it covers | Indicative price |
|---|---|---|
| Studio or bedsit | A single room of furniture and boxes, one van, one trip. | £200 to £340 |
| One bedroom flat | Bed, sofa, wardrobe, white goods and the boxes that come with them. | £250 to £420 |
| Two bedroom flat or house | Two bedrooms of furniture plus a living room and kitchen, usually a full van. | £330 to £550 |
| Three bedroom house | A family house, often a large van or two runs depending on the loft and garage. | £460 to £770 |
| Four bedroom house | A big load with a second crew member, and nearly always more than one trip. | £620 to £1,020 |
The Port Talbot stretch
The M4 west of Bridgend narrows through Port Talbot and it is the one stretch on this route that reliably slows down. It is rarely dramatic, but it is worth twenty minutes on the plan rather than assuming a clean run.
For anything going beyond Swansea towards Llanelli or the Gower, tell us the destination postcode when you ask. The last few miles out to the peninsula are slower than the motorway suggests.
Student moves, and when to book them
The September intake and the June clear-out are the two weeks in the year when this route is genuinely full. If your date falls in either, book it as far ahead as you can, because it is availability rather than price that runs out.
A single room with a bed, a desk and boxes is a small load and priced accordingly. If two or three of you are moving the same week, ask about sharing a van, which usually works out cheaper for everyone.
Both directions, same price
Swansea to Cardiff is the same job as Cardiff to Swansea, and it is priced the same way, because the van makes both legs regardless. Plenty of these moves are people coming into Cardiff for work rather than leaving it.
If you are moving into Cardiff and do not know the area yet, say so. Knowing which street you are landing on lets us tell you about the parking before you arrive rather than after.
What the price includes
- The van, the fuel and the driver
- A driver who carries, loads and stacks rather than watching you do it
- Blankets, straps and trolley to protect what is being moved
- Loading and unloading at both ends, including stairs
- The parking sorted before the day rather than argued about on it
Third-party charges such as clean air zones or parking permits are not included unless we say so in your quote. Ask, and it will be stated either way.
