We cover CF14 from the old village around Church Road out to the new streets off Llwyn-y-Pia Road and Maerdy Lane. Bellway puts the area about a 15 minute drive from the city centre, so a move into town or across to Thornhill, Llanishen or Cyncoed is a short run.
Churchlands and Longwood Grange
Churchlands is the big one. The Welsh Government order that stopped up part of St Mellons Road to make way for it describes a residential development of approximately 1,000 units, including a primary school and a village centre. Cardiff granted outline permission on 20 December 2017 and approved the reserved matters on 19 December 2019. Redrow is now selling its third and final phase, at Llwyn-y-Pia Road. The order is published on the Welsh Government's site.
Bellway's Longwood Grange, off Maerdy Lane, is the other. In January 2026 Bellway said residents had moved into all 144 of the homes completed so far, out of 270 planned on a 26 acre site, and that it was on track to finish by summer 2027.
- Give us the plot number and the developer's street name, not just the postcode.
- Tell us the handover time, so the van is not queuing behind the trades.
- Moving out of an older Lisvane house into a new one nearby is a short, local job.
St Mellons Road is closing at one end
The roads around the village are changing with the estates. Redrow told the community council in June 2025 that the Llwyn-y-Pia spine road will open only when the last house in Phase 2 is built, and that a bus gate will go in at the same time, closing St Mellons Road about 100 to 200 yards from its junction with Church Road and Lisvane Road. In May 2026 the community council's latest update put that closure at the beginning of 2028.
The same minutes note that Openreach closes St Mellons Road often at very short notice. A Rudry Road resident has complained to the community council about heavy works traffic using the road as a short cut to the Redrow sites, against the route agreed in the construction plan, and bollards put up at the end of Cefn Mably Road to stop it were later removed. The community council publishes its minutes each month.
So on a Lisvane move we check the route on the morning rather than the week before. A lane that was open when you booked can be shut on the day, and the lanes that are open can be carrying site lorries.
The station car park fills up
Lisvane shares its station with Thornhill. From the Lisvane side the Cardiff-bound platform is reached by a ramp from Clos Llysfaen; the 80 space car park itself is on the Thornhill side of the line.
It is not the spare parking it looks like. In October 2025 the community council recorded that the station car park was inadequate and that parked cars had spilled onto the roads around it, and agreed to ask about extending it. Complaints about overspill parking came up again at the November police and community meeting. Plan for the helpers' cars on the drive, not at the station.
What a Lisvane move costs
A room's worth of boxes and a few bits lands between £85 to £150, and a four bedroom house between £550 to £900. Open ended jobs can go on the hourly rate instead, £45 for one person and a van or £65 for two, with a 2 hour minimum.
The cost turns on the size of the house more than the distance. A four bedroom house with a garage and a loft is a full day; packing the night before cuts it. Every band we quote from is published rather than given over the phone.
