The transit bolts nobody keeps
A washing machine drum is on springs, and moving one without securing it is how the bearings go. The transit bolts that came with it are the proper answer, and almost nobody still has them five years later.
If you do not, tell us and we will pack it out instead, which is not as good as the bolts but a great deal better than nothing. Either way, run it empty on a spin the day before so the pump clears itself.
What we can disconnect and what we cannot
A washing machine or dishwasher on a standard isolation valve and a plug, we can disconnect and refit. A freestanding electric cooker on a plug, the same. That covers most Cardiff kitchens.
What we will not touch is gas, which needs a Gas Safe engineer for both ends, or anything hard wired into a cooker outlet plate. Integrated appliances behind a cabinet door are their own problem and often need a fitter rather than us. We would rather say that when you book than open a cupboard on the day and discover it.
Stairs, and why they change the price
On the ground floor with a bay outside, an appliance is a quick job. Down two flights of a Cathays terrace or up to a third floor Bay flat where the lift has to be booked, it is a different one, and it wants two people.
Tell us the floor at both ends when you ask. It is the single thing that moves the figure most.
What the price includes
- The van, the fuel and the driver
- A driver who carries, loads and stacks rather than watching you do it
- Blankets, straps and trolley to protect what is being moved
- Loading and unloading at both ends, including stairs
- The parking sorted before the day rather than argued about on it
What moves the number
- Floor and lift access. A third floor walk up in Cathays takes longer than a ground floor flat in Rhiwbina, and time is what the price is made of.
- Where the van can stop. A bay outside is one price, a hundred metre carry from the nearest legal loading point in the city centre is another.
- How much there actually is. Lofts, garages and sheds are where quotes go wrong, so count them in when you tell us.
- Whether it needs two people. Wardrobes, sofa beds, American fridge freezers and pianos usually do.
