Llandaff sits on Western Avenue and Cyncoed on Cyncoed Road. The halls follow the campuses: Cyncoed students live on the Cyncoed campus, and Llandaff students live at Plas Gwyn on Llantrisant Road.
Arrivals weekend for September 2026 is Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September, the weekend before Welcome Week and a few days ahead of Cardiff University's arrivals. Cardiff Met does not issue resident parking permits, and it asks drivers not to park in the residential streets around either campus. We move students in and out of both, and out again into house shares in Cathays and Roath.

Cyncoed and Llandaff are different moves
The two campuses sit on opposite sides of Cardiff, and a move to one looks nothing like a move to the other. Cyncoed is in the leafy north east of the city, where the halls are on the campus itself and the 52 Cardiff Bus runs to Roath and Cathays in about ten minutes. Llandaff is two miles west of the centre on Western Avenue, and its students live a short distance away at Plas Gwyn.
Tell us which campus and which block when you ask for a quote. A catered room at Cyncoed, a flat of eight at Plas Gwyn and a partner block off City Road each have their own access, and the route between them crosses the whole city.
Cyncoed campus halls
Cyncoed has 549 rooms, split between catered and self-catered, all on 42 week contracts. Catered rooms include breakfast and dinner seven days a week during term, which changes what a first year needs to bring. There is far less kitchen kit to move in, and that makes the second year move into a self-catered house share noticeably bigger.
The campus is home mainly to Sport, Education and Social Policy students, which means bikes, kit bags and gym equipment turn up alongside the usual boxes. Mention anything bulky when you book so we bring the right van.
Plas Gwyn for Llandaff students
Plas Gwyn is on Llantrisant Road in Llandaff, CF5 2XJ, about two miles from the city centre, with shops within a five minute walk. It has 390 en-suite rooms grouped in flats of eight, each sharing a kitchen and dining area, and it houses students on the Llandaff campus courses including Art and Design, Management, Health Sciences and Technologies.
Art and Design students tend to move the awkward loads: portfolios, canvases, easels and equipment that does not stack. We wrap and load those separately so nothing flat gets crushed under a box of plates. Eight students moving into one flat on the same weekend also means the stairs and corridors are busy, so a clear time slot helps.
No resident parking, and permit streets all round
Cardiff Met does not currently offer resident parking permits, although Blue Badge holders can park. Anyone else parking on campus needs a permit, and student permits run from 1 October to 30 June for students who meet specific criteria such as limited mobility or caring responsibilities. The university asks drivers not to park in the surrounding neighbourhoods, where residential permits and restrictions are in place.
For a move that means the van has to stop legally, unload promptly and leave, rather than parking up for the afternoon. We confirm the stopping point before the day and bring enough hands to keep the job short. The university's car parking page sets out the current rules.
- Read your hall's own arrival instructions before booking the van.
- Partner halls run their own arrival schedules, so confirm the date with the operator rather than assuming the university's weekend.
- Do not plan to park in the residential streets near either campus, because permits apply there.
Western Avenue and the city's speed limits
Restricted roads in Wales have had a default 20mph limit since September 2023, which covers most residential streets in the city. On 3 August 2026 Cardiff Council confirmed that a section of Western Avenue west of the Taff River Bridge, the road the Llandaff campus sits on, is one of four Cardiff routes returning to 30mph, with works to change the signs starting that month.
It does not change much for a van beyond journey times, but it is worth knowing that the limit on Western Avenue is changing while signage works are under way. The council announced the change in its newsroom release.
From halls into a house share
Cathays and Roath, where most Cardiff house shares are, are a short ride on the 52 bus from Cyncoed and a longer run across the city from Llandaff. Either way the distance is modest and the cost sits in the loading, the stairs and the parking at the house end.
Coming out of catered halls into a self-catered house means buying a kitchen, and a lot of that comes second hand. We collect marketplace furniture and single items too, set out on our furniture and single items page, and the general version of this service is on student moves.
What a Cardiff Met move costs
A room's worth of boxes and a few bits usually lands between £85 to £150, and a full room of furniture and boxes between £130 to £220. Open-ended jobs can be charged hourly instead, at £45 an hour for one person and a van or £65 for two, with a 2 hour minimum.
A move between the two campuses crosses the city, so allow for the drive as well as the carry. The full breakdown is on our prices page.
