The Cardiff campus is at 86 to 88 Adam Street, CF24 2FN, home to the Games and Animation Academy of Wales, the School of Business and Innovation and the university's creative courses. The University of South Wales runs its own halls of residence only at its Pontypridd campus in Treforest. In Cardiff it partners with private providers instead, so a USW move in the city is a move into a managed block with its own front desk, its own rules and its own arrival instructions.
USW also starts earlier than the other Cardiff universities. For 2026/27, enrolment and induction begin on Monday 14 September and teaching on Monday 21 September, two weeks before Cardiff University's autumn semester. We move USW students into the city centre blocks, between them and house shares in Adamsdown and Roath, and to and from Treforest.

Private blocks, not university halls
USW does not own any halls in Cardiff. It partners with private providers, and on its own accommodation pages it lists Ty Pont Haearn, run by Unite Students, and Zenith, with Lumya student living also named as a Cardiff provider. Your contract with the provider sets the start and end dates, and the provider, not the university, sends the arrival details.
The room allocation email usually arrives one to two weeks before you move in, and that is the email to send us. It tells us the building, the room and often the arrival window, which is everything we need to plan the van.
- Ty Pont Haearn is on Pellet Street, CF10 4FD, directly opposite the campus, and houses 643 students with 24 hour staffing and controlled access.
- Zenith is on Herbert Street, CF10 4DG, about eight minutes' walk from the campus, with apartments and studios.
- Both let rooms on contracts that run for most of the year, with 44 weeks listed for Ty Pont Haearn.
Moving into a managed city centre block
A purpose built block runs on its front desk. There is a controlled entrance to get through, a lift shared with everyone else arriving that weekend, and a limited stretch of kerb outside where a van can stop. None of it is a problem when it is booked. All of it slows a move down when three families turn up at the same time.
Zenith lists its property office as open from 7am to 9:30pm, which is worth knowing if your arrival runs late. Ask your block where vehicles should stop, whether a lift can be reserved and whether there is a side or service entrance closer to it than the main door.
- Get the arrival window from the provider before booking the van.
- Ask where the van should stop, because it is rarely right outside the front door.
- Tell us the floor so we can bring a second mover if the lift is busy.
Parking around the Adam Street campus
The university says there is a large car park opposite the Cardiff campus on Adam Street, with more parking a short walk away on Knox Road. Queen Street station is about five minutes away on foot and Central about ten. That suits a family dropping off a suitcase, but not a van unloading a full room, which needs to stop as close to the door as the road allows and then move on.
The blocks on Pellet Street and Herbert Street sit on the south side of the city centre, towards Cardiff Bay, and event days at the Principality Stadium bring road closures across the centre. If your move falls on a match or concert day, tell us, and we will plan the timing around it. The university's Cardiff campus page has the current travel and parking notes.
Cardiff students placed in Treforest
USW's accommodation guarantee is not tied to one location. The university allocates rooms nearest the campus you study at where it can, but it reserves the right to place students elsewhere when the first choice is full, so some Cardiff campus students start the year in the Treforest halls in Pontypridd.
For 2026/27 the university even offers a £500 bursary to Clearing Package students at the Cardiff or Newport campuses who take a room at Glamorgan Court in Treforest. For those students the second year move is usually a longer run down the valley into a Cardiff house share, and we price it by the load and the distance rather than by the hour.
Term dates that set the moving calendar
USW's 2026/27 calendar starts earlier and finishes earlier than the other Cardiff universities. Enrolment and induction begin on 14 September 2026 and teaching on 21 September. The autumn term ends on 18 December, the spring term runs from 11 January to 19 March 2027, and the summer term runs from 12 April to 28 May 2027.
That last date matters. Teaching finishes at the end of May, but a 44 week contract in a city centre block runs on beyond it, so the last day of teaching and the day the room has to be empty are not the same, and the move out needs planning against the contract rather than the calendar. The full calendar is on the university's term dates page, and our student storage moves page covers the in-between option.
From a block into a house share
Second year usually means a shared house. From the Adam Street campus the closest terraces are in Adamsdown and Splott, with Roath and Cathays a little further. The run is short, so the cost sits in the lift at the block end and the parking and stairs at the house end.
Housemates moving on the same day can share one van and split the cost. The general version of this service, for any student move in the city, is our student moves page.
Step by step, that move is moving from Cardiff halls to a student house. Arriving from abroad with luggage rather than furniture is covered by international student removals.
What a USW move costs
A room's worth of boxes and a few bits usually lands between £85 to £150, and a full room of furniture and boxes, one van and one trip, between £130 to £220. Open-ended jobs can be charged hourly instead, at £45 an hour for one person and a van or £65 for two, with a 2 hour minimum.
A run to or from Treforest adds the distance, and a busy lift at the block adds time. The full breakdown is on our prices page.
Halls we move students in and out of
Taken from the university's own accommodation listing and checked in September 2026. Hall lists change from year to year, so give us the building name when you ask for a quote.
