The campus is on Cyncoed Road, CF23 6XD, home to the Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy and the Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences. It has a purpose-built Campus Centre, an on-site shop, coffee bars and a refectory, and it is the head office of the Students' and Athletics Union.
Arrivals weekend for September 2026 is Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September. Rooms come on 42 week contracts, and the mix of catered and self-catered changes what you actually need to bring, which is the first thing worth working out before you book a van.

Students do not get a parking permit here
Cardiff Met requires a permit to park on campus, and Cyncoed needs one even for overnight parking. For students in halls the university is blunt: you may park only if you are allocated a permit, and the criteria are limited to Elite Sport and Limited Mobility. It also asks people not to park in the local neighbourhoods, where residential permits and restrictions apply.
That shapes the move more than anything else on this page. Nobody is keeping a car at Cyncoed to ferry things up in stages, so the van brings everything in one run and leaves. Visitor spaces are Pay and Display, card only or through PayByPhone. The rules are on the university's managed car parking page.
- Plan one run rather than two, because there is no car on site to finish the job.
- Ask your block where the van should stop, and unload straight into the room.
- Do not park in the surrounding streets while you unpack, as residents' restrictions apply.
Catered or self-catered changes the van
The 549 rooms split six ways, and the divide that matters for a move is catered against self-catered. A catered room comes with breakfast and dinner seven days a week during term, so pots, pans, plates and a food shop simply are not part of the load. A self-catered en-suite needs all of it.
If you are in one of the 244 Ensuite Premium rooms or the other self-catered categories, budget for a bigger load and buy the bulky kitchen basics after you arrive rather than moving them across the country. There is a shop on campus and the 52 runs into the city.
Sport kit is the Cyncoed difference
Cyncoed is Cardiff Met's sport campus, with the National Indoor Athletics Centre, an outdoor 400 metre track, a 25 metre pool, tennis and badminton halls and a gym that is free to first years. Its students arrive with the luggage to match: kit bags, boots, racquets, bikes and the occasional set of training weights.
Tell us what is coming beyond boxes. A bike, a set of clubs or a kit bag is easy, but they change how the van is packed, and anything heavy is better loaded low and last rather than balanced on top of a wardrobe box.
Getting there and back to the city
The 52 runs from Customhouse Street in the city centre and drops off in front of the main building, hourly through the day with extra departures every thirty minutes at peak times. The M1 links Cyncoed with the Llandaff campus. Heath High Level and Heath Low Level stations are about 25 minutes' walk away.
For a second year move into a shared house, Roath and Cathays are the usual destinations and the 52 reaches both in about ten minutes. That makes the move itself a short run, with the time going on stairs at the house end rather than the drive. The campus details are on the university's Cyncoed campus page.
If your course is taught at Llandaff
Not everyone at Cyncoed studies there. The university notes that Social Work, Health and Social Care and Housing are taught at the Llandaff campus, and that Plas Gwyn is the better option for those students.
If you have ended up living on the wrong side of the city for your timetable, a move between halls is a short job and worth doing early rather than commuting across Cardiff all year. Our Llandaff and Plas Gwyn page covers that end.
What a Cyncoed move costs
A room's worth of boxes and a few bits usually lands between £85 to £150, and a full room of furniture and boxes between £130 to £220. Open-ended jobs can be charged hourly instead, at £45 an hour for one person and a van or £65 for two, with a 2 hour minimum.
A 42 week contract means one move in and one move out, so it is worth booking both when you know the dates. The full breakdown is on our prices page.
The room types at Cyncoed
Taken from the university's own accommodation listing and checked in September 2026. Hall lists change from year to year, so give us the building name when you ask for a quote.
Self-catered, en-suite
The larger share of the 549 rooms, so most arrivals bring a full kitchen kit.
- Ensuite Classic, 87 rooms
- Ensuite Classic Plus, 36 rooms
- Ensuite Premium, 244 rooms
Catered
Breakfast and dinner are provided seven days a week in term, so there is far less to carry in.
- Catered Classic with shared bathrooms, 50 rooms in flats of 8 to 10
- Catered Ensuite Classic, 33 rooms
- Catered Ensuite Premium, in flats of 10 to 16
How to book it
- 1Tell us your room category, because catered and self-catered are different loads.
- 2Say whether you are bringing a bike, kit bags or sports equipment.
- 3Send your arrival day for the 18 to 20 September weekend.
- 4Plan one run, because there is no student parking to come back to.
- 5Book the move out at the same time if your contract dates are fixed.
