It sits on Llantrisant Road, CF5 2XJ, about two miles from the city centre, with shops, restaurants and banks within five minutes' walk and a Cardiff Bus service that reaches the centre in about ten minutes. The Llandaff campus itself is on Western Avenue, CF5 2YB.
Between them runs a traffic-free cycle path, with a short on-road section near Bridge Road. The university warns that the path is not lit, and advises another route late at night, which is worth knowing before you plan how to carry anything between the two.

Every kitchen is shared by eight
Plas Gwyn is entirely self-catered, and every kitchen serves eight rooms. That is the single most useful thing to know before you pack. Eight students each bringing a full set of pans, a toaster and a colander fills a kitchen on day one, and half of it goes home unused in June.
Bring your own plates, mug, cutlery and a pan or two, then sort the rest out between you once you have met. The flats already have a flatscreen TV in the kitchen, and shops are five minutes' walk away, so the things people most regret moving are the ones easiest to buy here. The room categories and what is included are on the university's Plas Gwyn page.
Llandaff is a campus you sign in to park at
The Llandaff campus is on Western Avenue and is home to the Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences at Llandaff, the Cardiff School of Management, the Cardiff School of Technologies and the Cardiff School of Art and Design. Visitors have to Pay and Display, and between 8am and 4pm they must also report to Reception for a temporary permit to display alongside the ticket.
The university is direct about the rest: visitor parking spaces at Llandaff are severely limited and there is no guarantee of a space. So the campus is not where a loaded van goes. The move goes to Plas Gwyn or your house, and the campus rules matter only if you are delivering work or equipment during the day. The detail is on the university's Llandaff campus page.
Art and design students move differently
The Cardiff School of Art and Design is based at Llandaff, and art students carry things no other course does: portfolios, boards, canvases, a drawing board, sometimes a sewing machine or a set of tools. None of it stacks, and most of it is ruined by being packed under something heavy.
Tell us what you have when you ask for a quote. Flat work travels upright against the side of the van, wrapped and strapped, and we load it last so nothing goes on top of it. It is the same principle as moving a mirror, and it costs nothing extra to do properly.
Getting to Plas Gwyn and around Llandaff
Driving in, the university's own directions are to leave the M4 at junction 29, take the A4119 west through Llandaff village, and Plas Gwyn is the first left opposite the BBC. Buses 62, 63 and 66 run from Westgate Street to Western Avenue, about three minutes' walk from the Llandaff campus, and the 1 and 2 stop immediately outside it.
The M1 links Llandaff with the Cyncoed campus, and Waun-Gron station on the City Line is about twenty minutes' walk. For a move, the practical point is that Llantrisant Road and Western Avenue are main roads: we come off them to load rather than stopping on them.
Moving out of Plas Gwyn
The 42 week contracts mean a move out in the summer rather than at the end of teaching, and everyone in a flat of eight tends to leave within the same few days. Booking one van between several housemates is almost always cheaper than three separate jobs, and we can collect from several rooms in one run.
If the next place is not ready, our student storage moves page covers the gap, and end of term student removals covers what to do with everything you are not taking.
What a Plas Gwyn move costs
A room's worth of boxes and a few bits usually lands between £85 to £150, and a full room of furniture and boxes between £130 to £220. Open-ended jobs can be charged hourly instead, at £45 an hour for one person and a van or £65 for two, with a 2 hour minimum.
A move between Plas Gwyn and a house in Cathays or Llandaff is a short run, so most of the cost is the carry at each end. The full breakdown is on our prices page.
